Cowboy is a late 20’s senior kill pen rescue and our main hands-on horse for the program. He is gentle, intuitive and patient teacher for all. Slow, thoughtful, but full of life, he will be a consistent, stable partner to struggle with and learn through.
Kait is the Founding Executive Director of The HNH Sanctuary. With 10 years of instructing and a background in child development (while being a mom herself), she created the curriculum and horsemanship style you and your child will be learning from!
Frequently Asked Questions

Our horsemanship program is an 8-week course for boys and girls ages 5–17, rooted in relationship, responsibility, and trust. Our classes are an hour and a half each week and go beyond riding. We teach children how to care for horses with patience, empathy, and respect, giving a unique opportunity to develop valuable personal and life skills along the way.
Horses are powerful teachers. Through consistent, hands-on work with rescued horses, students learn emotional regulation, confidence, communication, and leadership in an environment that is calm, structured, and supportive.
-
Our hope for this program is that you and your child will develop real, tangible skills to combat negative self-talk, insecurity and hopelessness through our rescue horses. The barn is a launching pad to becoming kinder, more patient, and gentle while also becoming more confident, accountable and autonomous. Horses require us humans to be still, listen and be humble in our approach, challenging all of us to cultivate the best versions of ourselves.

We tailor each lesson for your child based off of their emotional capacity, ability, and confidence level. Our curriculum is specifically developed for kids, Little Shepherds (5-12) and Reins of Resilience (13-17), and is conscious of both the spirit and mind of the children and horses we work with.
• 1 on 1 instruction with a focus on safety and connection
• Ethical horsemanship grounded in positive reinforcement
• Emphasis on groundwork, care, and relationship before riding
• Trauma-informed approach for both horses and children
• Faith-anchored values of stewardship, compassion, and responsibility
• Building block style education

Kait Garcia here! I am the founder of The HNH Sanctuary. This program was created out of both lived experience and deep conviction. After a season of personal loss, addressing trauma and healing, I found restoration through the steady work of caring for abused horses. In helping them heal, I was healed too.
I have been the unruly child, the compliant one, and the performer who needed a safe outlet. HNH is the space I needed growing up, a place where children are met with patience, structure, and care rather than pressure or expectation.
With nearly ten years of experience in horse rescue, rehabilitation, and ethical horsemanship, I teach from a foundation that is faith-based, science-backed, and trauma-informed. Lessons emphasize relationship, responsibility, and trust, creating a calm environment where children and horses grow together at their own pace.
I look forward to talking with you, getting to know your family better, and hopefully teach your child about the amazing healing powers of equine stewardship!
